If you want to gain a Level 3 qualification in Science in combination with other subjects, then this may be the course for you. If you would like a portion of your qualification to come from coursework, then this course is more suitable than A Level Science courses. This is equivalent to an A Level and needs to be studied alongside other Level 3 qualifications.
In the first year all students will study Principles and Applications of Science and Practical Scientific Procedures. In the second year students will study Scientific Investigation Skills along with one additional Biology unit.
You are assessed through a portfolio of work which will include a range of practical and written skills. Two units will be assessed through an external examination, one of which involves a practical carried out under controlled conditions.
All units must be successfully completed in order to obtain the Extended Certificate.
At least 5 GCSEs graded 9-4 or A*-C including English and Maths at grade C/4 and CC/44 in Double Award Science.
