This course will build your previous knowledge and understanding of Spanish. Therefore it is not suitable for beginners. You will study a series of themes designed to develop knowledge, understanding and critical analysis of the society and culture of the Hispanic World. Spanish is a dynamic and interactive subject where emphasis is placed on practical communication using topical authentic material. Lessons are conducted largely in the target language and during the course you will learn to present cogent viewpoints, develop arguments and analyse both spoken and written material. Independent study is at the heart of your course so you will be expected to take responsibility for improving your language skills by undertaking regular independent study tasks.
Translation is an integral part of the A Level course therefore in your first year, basic grammar will be explained and practised regularly in order to aid accurate and coherent communication. In your second year, you will become competent in using more complex grammatical structures and idiomatic expressions in your speaking and writing.
How will it be delivered?
100% exam. You will sit three exams, consisting of two written papers and a speaking exam. All examinations take place at the end of the AS or A Level course.
