What will you be working towards?
||GCE A/AS Level or Equivalent
On this course you will study 3 areas of music. For the exam, you will be required to give 1 solo recital. In addition, you will perform up to 4 recitals per year, which gives you more experience and practice. You will study a range of set works that will expand your musical horizons. Classroom listening, learning and written work is enhanced by trips to hear professional performances. You will have your compositions performed live. Students also study traditional harmony - the skill at the heart of all fine composition.
How will it be delivered?
Examining board: Edexcel
Performance: Students will give a public performance of one or more pieces, performed as a recital of at least 8 minutes. Externally assessed.
Composing: Students will submit a portfolio of 1 composition and 1 compositional technique exercise. Externally assessed.
Understanding music: A 2 hour written exam will assess your understanding of music, and in particular your familiarity with the set works. There are questions testing your aural ability, as well as 2 essay questions.
You will need to demonstrate your ability to play an instrument or sing and understand music theory to grade 5 standard.

A very high percentage of Academy students have progressed on to university or college to study music. Music has proved to be a well respected A Level qualification enabling many students to gain entry to degree courses in a wide range of subjects.
