Overview

The course is equivalent to one A Level and is graded at a Pass, Merit, or Distinction level.  It is suitable for students who have a good independent work ethic, as the ability to meet deadlines is essential.  Having general knowledge of current affairs would also be beneficial. 

  

Details

This is a two-year course with four individual components: 

•Two examined units cover business finance and marketing.  The finance examination covers both personal and business finance.  It is a two-hour written paper and can be taken in Year 12 and Year 13.   

•The marketing examination is based on a pre-release case study provided by EDEXCEL.  Candidates have three hours to write up a marketing campaign based on the information provided which is then submitted to the examination board.   

•The remaining two units are internally assessed through the completion of assignments.  The first assignment examines the business activity of a multinational business and the second unit concentrates on both the theory and demonstration of customer service.    

BTECs carry the same weighted UCAS points as an A Level and are accepted by the majority of universities.
