Hailsham Community College
Pastoral Support and Mentoring
The transition from school to Sixth Form can be tough, both academically and emotionally. But here at Hailsham Sixth Form we will ensure you are well supported throughout your time with us. The basis of success at Sixth Form is your wellbeing, and the way to help us help you is to be honest if you are finding something tough. Every adult at Hailsham Sixth Form is happy to listen if you need to talk.
Your mentor is your first point of contact for any concerns you may have. You will meet with them in small groups or individually at least once a fortnight and they’ll keep track of your progress, your attendance and your wellbeing
What our students can expect from us:
- To be treated with courtesy and respect.
- Innovative and engaging lessons.
- Regular feedback and guidance.
- Access to excellent study facilities.
- Academic tutoring.
- Guidance or referral over financial, personal or social matters.
- Access to a tutor who will monitor progress and offer support when necessary.
- Independent high quality careers guidance for employment and higher education.
- Parental involvement where your teacher or mentor feels that support is needed from home
What makes us different?
The Sixth Form is based on two central principles; where students receive total support and where student aspiration is key. We have an exciting and varied curriculum that caters to all types and levels of learners. The majority of our own Year 11 students choose to stay with us and year on year we are very happy and proud to welcome students from schools and colleges around the local area.
We also have a proven track record of student performance, giving us a good reputation of which we are extremely proud. The past few years have seen our students achieve good levels of success in our academic subjects and outstanding levels of achievement in our vocational suite of studies.
At Hailsham Sixth Form we have a wide mixture of subjects on offer to students of all abilities. These include Level 3 courses such as Advanced Levels and also a range of BTEC National qualifications. As part of the application process we offer guidance on ‘packages’ of subjects that complement each other, as well as ensuring the courses you take are the right ones to support your future ambitions
Students can also expect:
- individualised teaching and pastoral care.
- Five hours of classroom teaching per week per subject.
- Modern Facilities.
- Varied and outstanding enrichment opportunities.
- Supportive teachers.
- Excellent support and monitoring systems.
- Bespoke university and career guidance.
For those students that come to us, Hailsham Sixth Form offers a real sense of community. We are not only focussed on how you perform in your academic studies, but equally on your all round development into young adult life. The environment that students find with us is one where you can be confident to express yourself, make a difference to our community and truly be the very best that you can be.
It is for these reasons we understand that it is not just what goes on inside the classroom that will develop you into a successful young person. What goes on outside the lesson time is just as important in preparing you for your future lives. We therefore offer a range of extension and enrichment opportunities that cater for all our students, and that include:
